Delegation – one of the most important
skills
I believe, you have heard the delegation
many times. Delegation is a key tool in the effective management of time,
people and resources yet managers are often reluctant to delegate. Why? Why
some people hold back?
- I can’t trust anybody to handle this. I’ll look bad if the job isn’t done right.
- I can do this better than any of my people.
- I don’t have time to explain how to do this job. It’s faster and easier to do it yourself.
- I’m a doer.
- I’m responsible for what happens here. I cannot delegate that responsibility.
- We still remain responsible to the organization with the eventual outcome, no matter who does the work.
Why delegation is important.
1. Delegation
fulfills every manager’s responsibility to develop the workplace competencies
of his or her subordinates. Delegation reveals capabilities and shortcoming of
subordinates. The staff take charge of some work which develops their ability
and potential
2. Delegation
addresses every manager’s problem: too much to do..too little time.. we make
the most effective use of the resources available to you.
3. We
have the time and space to do the most important parts of the job
